  • Trailer Haul Concrete Requirements and Information

Trucks must have a receiver type trailer hitch.

The minimum truck size for our smallest 1 yard trailer is a 1/2 ton truck. Examples of a 1/2 ton truck are Ford F-150, etc. To Haul a 1.5 concrete trailer your truck must be a 3/4 ton truck or larger. Examples are Ford F-250, F-350, F-450. Mini Trucks cannot haul concrete.

Measuring forms to estimate concrete necessary to complete job.

Concrete is sold by the cubic yard. 1 cubic yard=27 cubic feet=46,656 cubic inches (36X36X36). It is often easier to convert all dimensions into inches and divide by 46,656 to calculate cubic yards. Concrete is heavy and packs the soil, so we suggest adding 15-25% to the amount of concrete you are ordering. Typically, we use 2x4 as concrete forms, it is suggested that around the perimeter of the forms that 6"X6" trench (footing) be dug to make the slab less likely to crack.

Sack Mix= # of common cement sacks/cubic yard

Sack mix is the quality of the concrete. The sack mix is the number of 94# sack of powdered common cement added to one cubic yard of concrete. Powered common cement is the glue that binds the aggregates together to create concrete. Additional sacks of common cement add strength and a smoother texture. General purpose concrete is 5 sack/yard concrete. A patio where a smoother texture is desired would be a 6 sack/yard concrete. On driveways we suggest 6-7 sack/yard concrete.

    Concrete Admixes

A concrete admix is an item added to concrete to improve the concrete in a specific manner. Common admixes are reinforcing fibers to make the concrete stronger and less likely to crack. Masonry pigments are added to give the concrete a color. Delayed set admix extends the working time of concrete. Air entrainment admix adds microscopic bubbles to the concrete to make it stronger when cured. Adding sugar to concrete will destroy the strength of concrete. Concrete trucks carry 100# of sugar.
